Username and nickname are different
Your TikTok username is the @ handle associated with your profile link. Your nickname is the name displayed to other people in places such as comments and messages. Decide which one you want to change before editing. Updating only the nickname does not give you a new @ handle.
Open the profile editor
Open Profile in TikTok, choose Edit profile, and select Username. Enter your candidate and read the validation shown by the app before saving. TikTok’s official username help is linked below; the app’s current eligibility and waiting-period notice takes precedence if it differs from an older tutorial.
Prepare a backup and update your links
If TikTok rejects your first choice, try a short interest word or a readable variation rather than adding a full birth date. After changing the handle, copy the profile link from the app and replace it wherever you share it, including other social bios. Test the updated link from a separate browser tab.
Check carefully before saving
Review spelling, readability and privacy. Our generator and checker help with conservative format limits, but they do not reserve a username or bypass a platform cooldown. If you cannot save, use the message in TikTok to distinguish a name conflict from a timing or account restriction. Do not give a third-party service your password to unlock a rename.
